Physician of the Year: 2007
By Donna Sinnott, IBCLC, President of PRO-LC
The PRO-LC Board of Directors is pleased to announce
that Delaware Valley Women’s Care has been selected as the
2007 PRO-LC Physician of the Year. This is the highest
honor given by our organization: it recognizes physicians
for their exemplary work on behalf of breastfeeding dyads.
Dr. Richard Gersh, Dr. Elizabeth Louka, and Dr. Rebecca Gould are the three doctors of this obstetrics group that deliver babies at Delaware County Memorial Hospital. This group was nominated by PRO-LC member, Pediatrician and Lactation Consultant Dr. Penny Soppas. Dr. Soppas feels this group “has been a driving force is lactation promotion and advancement at this hospital. They recommend breastfeeding to their patients and support them through the ups and downs. They believe and state that breastfeeding is the preferred method of feeding all newborns.” Dr. Gersh serves on the newly organized breastfeeding task force at DCMH and is a force for change is supporting breastfeeding as the cultural norm.
The purpose of our organization is to: protect, promote and support breastfeeding; to serve as a continuing education resource to further the professional growth of lactation consultants by sharing knowledge gained through research and personal experience; to enhance the reputation, image and credibility of lactation consultants and ILCA in a responsible and professional manner; and to support the world-wide implementation of the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes. We feel that this group is one of many pediatrician and obstetric practices that also matches our purpose.
Congratulations to our winner of the 2007 PRO-LC Physician
of the Year Award:
